Robert F. Delaney has been covering China as a journalist for Dow Jones Newswires, Bloomberg News, and South China Morning Post since 1995. He moved to China in 1992, when the government set in motion an economic reform programme to counteract the trauma of 1989 and re-assume Beijing’s position as the seat of a powerful nation. Robert spent many years covering the twists and turns of this transformation and eventually got sick of economic data. He then had to spend as much time learning to illuminate the personal struggles of those in the middle of these changes. Many of the themes for The Wounded Muse – Robert’s first novel – were first developed in Route 1 to China, a collection of short stories that won Robert first runner up in the University of Toronto – Penguin Random House Creative Writing Competition in 2012. Robert splits his time between New York City and Toronto.
